How I got here …

My mom made this shirt for me in college. It was my first year and she knew I was meant to help other people. She had a vision for my life, but I didn’t think she was right.Workout with Missy T-shirt

I grew up in the gym. I was THAT gym rat … I was that high school and college kid that LOVED going to the gym. Although, I didn’t go to pick up guys or just hang out; I loved the atmosphere. The 2 things I remember most about the gym was

(1) my group ex instructor had a daughter in college and I remember thinking “she is that old and teaching group ex .. wow, that’s pretty cool 🙂

(2) there were always cardiac rehab patients walking around in their red shirts and I thought it was so awesome and they looked so happy and they were “so old” but healthy and active, HA (remember I was in HS/college).

I didn’t know what I wanted to study in college and my mom always tried to push me into fitness because she saw my potential and knew it made me happy.

She got me my first instructor job … a friend of hers allowed me to teach a step class at their club and from that point, I was addicted. I loved it! I went back to college and started teaching classes and worked in the gym on campus. From there, I majored in Exercise Science and completed my internship at MJH Cardiac Rehab. I was in heaven.

Then … I got a job and realized there wasn’t alot of money in the fitness industry, unless you were in management, and still, there wasn’t much money yet alot of hours. So, I worked in management, sales and marketing for years and I enjoyed it but missed my clients, missed teaching classes but I just didn’t have time to do it all with my kids and family responsibilities.

THEN …. my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and as her disease worsened, something just changed within me. I realized that our time is limited. I realized that I wanted to be happy. I realized that I wanted to enjoy each day and make a positive impact.

So .. I went back to my roots … to what my mom wanted me to do 20 years ago because she knew it’s what made me the happiest. Then, I decided to create the business that she envisioned years ago … Workout with Missy. She had the vision and she knew me more than I knew myself.

As I continue to grow and live my dream, I want to thank all my clients, customers, coaches, friends and family that have supported my business and my commitment to helping others live healthy and happy lives. I wish my mom could see me now because I know she would be happy and proud of me.

If you are stuck and don’t know what to do next, think about what makes you happy, what your family thinks makes you happy (because they know you!), and DO what makes you happy. Life is too short and when you love life then you are living to your full potential.
